I've held off commenting on the new torsional sharpening fixture & arm system
manufactured by Kuda Sharpening.  Previously when asked by new sharpeners, I
would recommend learning to free hand the outside edge of convex edge shears, and a
different system with a clamp for bevel edge shears.  As of the summer of 2007 I have
changed my recommendation to only one system.  The Kuda arm and holding fixture is
the first one I have seen that does it all well.  You can easily perform very precise
sharpening with or without torsion, left and right hand shears with a consistent edge
every time.  It has detents for locking the clamp in position for sharpening perfect bevel
edges quickly on a flat hone.  Also with or if you choose without torsion.  It also has a
feature which allows you to sharpen non honed edge shears without taking them apart.
This is very useful when sharpening grooming shears.  The construction is first class,
the arms are lightweight and well balanced, yet rugged.   Space age cool doesn't begin
to describe it.  The arms are rigid with no side play and function very smoothly.  I hope
this helps with anyone just starting out but experienced sharpeners would also benefit
greatly from this system.  If you live and work in the greater Vancouver, BC area buy
someone else's machine.

For me, what sets the Kuda apart from all other sharpening machines is the fact that when
you invest in a Kuda, you are not just purchasing a sharpening machine, but actually
investing in an entire "sharpening system". Lenny and Dee's commitment to this industry
and their customers, is reflected nowhere better, than in the quality and craftsmanship that
is so evident in the Kuda Sharpening System.

The machine is of the highest quality, loaded with many convenient amenities. From the
convenience of the twin heads, built in storage compartment, work tray and light, all the way
to the portability of its compact, mobile chassis, it is obvious that Lenny's many years of
sharpening experience, have helped him to build the most versatile sharpening system
available.

This machine, combined with the Kuda cushioned abrasives, and now with the available
Torsional Edge Clamp, will literally change this industry, as we know it. The Kuda clamp
allows me to do, what was once only possible by free hand sharpening, but with the
repeatable accuracy and consistency of a jig. Make no mistake; this is not a traditional jig.
Traditional jigs, actually change the original shape of the shear. I have always refused to
use traditional jigs, but I am proud to use the Kuda Torsional Edge Clamp. It allows me to
perfectly duplicate factory edge angles, no matter what style or size shears come my way.

Any person who is looking to get into this business, or improve an already existing
business, should look no further than the Kuda. Don't just buy a sharpening machine; invest
in an entire sharpening “system”! It will allow you to outperform any sharpening service in
your area, and lead to a level of “customer loyalty” that you never thought possible.

I’ve had my Kuda for several years and I’ve always used a scissors clamp because I prefer
the built-in repeatability.  I knew that I was missing the angle change-up at the scissors tips
but I was never inspired to revert to freehand scissors sharpening.  Besides, my stylist
clients were completely happy with my work, enough so that much of my business comes
from referrals.

When I heard about the Kuda Torsional Edge clamp and it’s operational theory, I wanted
one.  When the 1st batch were released for distribution I was right there to get mine, and
when I received my clamp I was like a kid at Christmas.  I rounded up salon shears and
grooming shears for a major try-out and I was delighted to find that the clamp performed
just as I was told it would.  I was now getting the angle change at the blade tips and the
difference on my salon shears was amazing.  I was very impressed that I could not easily
tell where I had sharpened except that the scissors looked good and were very sharp.  I had
a weekend ahead of me and I used the time to get acquainted with my new torsional edge
clamp.  The following Tuesday, since the local salons take Monday off, I went about my
rounds as usual except this time I was armed with my torsional edge clamp.  My
established clients who already knew my work exclaimed in wide-eyed wonder that I’d
gotten better, and it was especially gratifying to receive tips on top of my already premium
rate.  I also had a chance to try stylists who were not yet on my client list and those that did
take a chance on me were handsomely impressed that this “unknown guy” made their
scissors cut better than ever.  I was completely satisfied that I was achieving the angle
change at the blade tips and if I ever had a small doubt about my scissors sharpening
ability, the torsional edge clamp erased it forever.  I’ve used the torsional clamp for a few
months now and my challenge to stylists is “can you see where I’ve sharpened your
scissors?”  To which the answer is often “No”.  The best part, whether caused by the
torsional edge clamp or not, is that I still get tips.

Lenny & Dee,
Hope this finds you well.  I would like to take a bit of your time to express my
appreciation to both of you & for producing a fine product!  I have been fascinated with
sharpening since childhood.  My uncle was a professional sharpener in Indiana.  30+
years ago I bought my first Wahl scissor sharpening system with angle/bevel settings
and fine diamond wheel.  It was a proud day.  Since that time I advanced to the Foley
325 scissor sharpener with remarkable capabilities.  Next came the grey vertical
machine with floating arms and adjustable scissor clamp.  Smiled like a kid at
Christmas.  Then came the blue/green machine with more torque and carrying case
and advanced diamond wheel and polishing procedure.  That was like finding a
passing gear.  Low and behold came the convexed shear, requiring a new look in
sharpening techniques.  The convexing clamp on the vertical machine was awesome.
Then came the flat hone and rightfully so...utilizing a 6" plate versus a 1/2" vertical
wheel.  It took the (wave) out of the blades.  This advancement was like turbo charging
sharpening equipment...multi head, forward and reverse, with plate changes and
abrasive changes in a flash.  Yeehaw.  It required learning to "freehand" - following the
rake angles, belly contours to replicate the factory physical makeup and "factory feel."
My concern during this phase was "the mystery" involved without a mechanical clamp.  I
built a movable device to keep the bevel/angles consistent.  During this time I did
extensive research, invested in instructional DVD's and learned a lot.  But...I knew deep
down that I was missing the mark when it came to the rake angle, as you refer to "The
Torsional Edge."  I live and breathe sharpening and am never satisfied with my work.
But, have satisfied clients so...as you well know I started asking you folks questions
over a year ago and have asked many since.  I do appreciate your time, attention and
patience.  I liked the idea of doing "non invasive" sharpening removing minimal
precious metal.  I liked the idea of following factory contours with a consistent, reliable
process.  The more I researched the better the Kuda Sharpening System looked.  While
I do like the Kuda "twin" when I saw the "single" with adjustable cradle on your website I
knew I had to have one.  When I received the "single" it was again like Christmas
morning and a proud day.  It exceeded my expectations and I am fussy when it comes
to equipment.  I thank you and my clients thank you.  It performs exactly as you said it
would.  Your DVD's are great and I hit the ground running but look forward to training at
one of your seminars/workshops this year.  Again, thank you for your persistence in
building the Kuda Sharpening Systems - what I consider "the unfair advantage" on
barber, beauty and beauty shears.

P.S the "Kuda" is now like being supercharged!  What a ride.
